Today’s fishing rods have incorporated modern features that are not typical of the more primitive cane pole. Modern fishing rods contain reels, which aid in the retrieval of fish caught in its bait.

A much-sophisticated feature is the spinning rod where the entire shaft of the rod except the handle can move around on its axis to allow flexibility when fish caught on snare bait struggles through the water.

Like the classic cane fishing rods, the fishing gadget is thick at the handle (bottom) and is tapered and thinner at the tip. This very basic design allows handling stability and flexible movement of the entire length of the shaft.

Types of Fishing Rods and Specifications

A typical fishing rod measures 6 and 16 feet (2 and 5 m) and vary in capability to tolerate strain in fishing activity. The length has a lot to do with withstanding force exerted by the fish to the pole and determines for the most part the performance of rods used for angling.

Cane Poles

Cane poles are one of the smallest and less sophisticated gadgets in fishing. It is usually made of bamboo or other flexible wood material with the most basic fly line attached to it.

Unlike other more sophisticated fishing rods, cane poles do not usually contain reels or its equivalent to be used for reeling in or retrieving fish caught on bait. This very same action is known as angling.

Spinning Rods

These types of rods are the most popular today. They can be used either for heavyweight or lightweight fish although they were proven best for trout, walleye and bass fish. They vary in measurements from 5 and 7 feet (1.5 and 2.5 m).

Spinning poles are commonly used in bass fishing competition accounting for their flexibility and tolerance to stress. They accommodate bigger and tougher fly lines and stabilize them to avoid line tangles during uncoiling of float lines.

Jigging Rods

These rods are best for heavy lures and baits especially when reaching around 180 to 200 feet under the ocean’s surface. They are made of fine, solid materials which accounts to their heaviness. The use of jigging rods is specifically due to alternating currents during the fishing activity.

Some oceans have erratic undersea current. That is why the bait and fly lines should be kept in place. Lures are also disturbed and cause confusion among fish if the lines are not long and heavy enough to withstand and tolerate water currents under the sea.

These rods are best for target fishes usually found dwelling at the bottom of the sea such as halibut and cods.

There are always greater fish than you have caught, always the lure of greater task and achievement, always the inspiration to seek, to endure, to find, always the beauty of the lonely stream and open sea, always the glory and dream of nature. Tales of the Anglers El Dorado, Zane Grey Hardy has a rich tradition of building innovative tackle for saltwater fishing and eighty years ago Zane Grey, the famous American author, angler and traveler was a friend of the company. We designed much of his tackle for many of his exploratory angling trips around the seas of the world. After a great deal of testing and even more feedback, we are convinced that the new Zane range of saltwater fly rods is going to prove a worthy tribute to one of angling’s great pioneers. The key to the Zane rods are the blanks, amongst the slimmest ever produced, capable of cutting through coastal winds like a knife. A careful blend of multi-modulus fibers allows easy loading but very fast recovery – the perfect combination for quick accurate casting over any range. On the butt section are two Fuji-lined SIC rings, one of 20mm and one of 16mm. These are designed to allow super-rapid line clearance and to funnel the line for that last powerful shoot. The reel seat is hard-anodized aluminum, picked out in blue, to mirror the colour of the blanks and to match the trim of the Zane reels. The double locking screws clamp the reel to the rod – but the fitted nylon washers mean it wont be stuck there at the end of the day! Zane rods are designed for saltwater fishing but are also ideal for other species like salmon, sea-trout, steelhead and even pike. The fine points of the Zane package include carved aluminum stoppers, a glass reinforced carbon tube in translucent blue and elegantly etched rod details. The Zane is supplied in a protective neoprene carrying system. Model

Big trout usually eat big flies. When you’re fishing for these record trout you need a fly rod that will supply the pressure needed to haul those slabs out of their lair. The Sage Z-Axis 690 is the one fast action fly rod that gives you the power while providing the grace for landing dry flies as well. Through the near magic of the G5 Technology, Sage continues its tradition of fast action fly rods that have quick loading tips and generate extreme line speeds. The 9′?6 weight Z-Axis two and four-piece fly rods come with up locking reel seats complete with?Rosewood insert. By replacing the glass inner hoop fibers with graphite fibers, Sage has made a stronger yet thinner walled blank, meaning a faster taper for a lighter rod. In fact the 690-2 weighs in at only 3 5/16 ounces and the 690-4 weighs in at only 3 7/16 ounces. All this plus?they fit into aluminum tubes measuring only 56 1/2 and 30 inches long. Sage Z-Axis 690, 2 & 4 PieceSpecificationsLine Size: 6 Rod Length: 9′0” Sections: 2 and 4 Weight: 3 5/16 and 3 7/16 oz. Handle: Cigar Reel Seat: Uplock Rosewood Action: FastSAGE Z-AXISThe Z-AXIS Fly Rod! Mr. Wizard is back and talk about pressure! You know the design team at Sage was sweating some serious bullets when they looked to replace the XP. For more than six years the XP fly rod series has been the industry standard by which fast action fly rods are measured and now it has been replaced. Enter the Z-Axis. We know you’re going to be completely awed by this Sage fly rod series! These rods are lighter and although they generate the fastest line speed of any fly rod, are easier to cast (if that is possible) than the XP models. The added advantage of the extreme line speed is accuracy and control of your fly. If you want to talk trackability… Even though we now expect in-the-hand lightness from today’s fly rods, we never thought the Z-Axis weightlessness could be achieved without giving up strength. Oh how we were
