Because they are so …
Because they are so dilletantic and presented by people whom don’t have an appropriate level of skill to instruct, and very little ability to communicate properly, it always seems like they are making it up as they go, rather than having a prepared and coherant presentation.
I have actually seen a couple of good presentations, but these are definately the exeption rather than the rule.

you can find …
you can find complete starter kits that include Rod, Reel, Line, and flys for under $30. A great way to get into it, then if you are enjoying it, you can always slowly upgrade you kit with bigger and better equipment.
