The 2009 Reel Program from Sage was centered on a tenacious desire to develop and deliver reels that live up to the Sage rod legacy.The new series of Sage Reels consists of a whopping 24 models, all designed with innovation and solid reliability in mind. These reels have been tested hard both in the R&D lab by Sage’s own Materials Scientists and Engineers and in the field by hard-working professional fly fishing guides.
The TXL Fly Rod Series is the second in the Sage lineup to incorporate the use of Generation 5 Technology of graphite placement, and what a fly rod series it is! The TXL finally offers the fly angler both precise line control and, to borrow a Sage term, “fish-ability”, in a true ultra-light fly rod series. We were skeptical when we heard about these short rods in little itty-bitty line weights, but knowing the Sage design team, we withheld our opinion until we fished these little beauties. Well, as usual, Sage has succeeded. They’ve designed 000 to 4 weight rods (that’s right, a 000 weight!) under 8 feet that cast like bullets, yet fish like bamboo fly rods! These smooth casting fly rods are designed for tight fishing conditions, small tail-outs and pocket water where long casts are not the norm, but line and fly control is required! These tiny fly rods are perfect for casting small to medium flies and protecting the thinnest of tippets, even on big fish.
